Despite having to make changes to their lineup, Beer Albion always looked in control as they beat Ipplepen Athletic 4-1 in the Devon Premier Cup.
They settled early on and after a number of chances had gone begging they opened the scoring when Taylor Rooke took full advantage of a poor clearance to round the goalkeeper and score.
With Beer failing to convert further chances, Ipplepen stayed in the game and the visitors paid the penalty of some slack marking when the home side levelled the scores with a headed goal just before the break.
With interval comments about poor finishing duly noted, Beer soon went 2-1 ahead when an Ed Kenworthy through ball found Taylor Rooke and he took on the goalkeeper to fire into the far corner.
It was soon 3-1. Taylor Rooke was brought down inside the penalty area and he picked himself up to complete his second hat-trick of the season.
The cherry on the cake came fifteen minutes from the end, midfielder Jayden Rooke breaking into the area before squaring the ball for Billy Knox to finish.
There were plenty of goals at Budleigh Salterton where the home side reached the next round of the competition with a 5-2 win against Kingsteignton United.
The visitors went in front early on but the equaliser soon came when Jacob Tinsley headed in from a corner.
Budleigh’s dominance then began to reap rewards as Tinsley made it 2-1 and Oscar Walsh added a third before half-time when he got on the end of a long clearance.
A fine solo effort from Ryan Fell put Budleigh 4-1 up early in the second half and although Kingsteignton pulled one goal back, Fell’s second strike earned him the Man of the Match Award.
Sam Pyne’s effort late in the first half put Ottery St. Mary in control at home to St. Martins but then some miscommunication
at the back allowed the visitors to snatch an equaliser ten minutes from time.
With the tie level, the game went to penalties which St. Martins edged 4-3.
Clubs get back to league action on Saturday (October 12th). Beer Albion and Ottery St. Mary host Topsham Town and the University of Exeter respectively while Budleigh Salterton are away to Elmore.
