All three of the local Peninsula League East teams were involved in the Second Qualifying Round of The Isuzu FA Vase on Saturday but only one of them went through to the next stage of the competition.
Sidmouth Town were the successful side beating higher league opposition Wellington who members of the Western League 3-1.
It was Wellington who went in front in the 19th minutes when a deep cross was played back across the goal before being headed past Elliot Driver.
After a switch in formation though, Sidmouth was soon level. A Sam Hatswell free kick was cleared as far as the edge of the area when Isaac Furness and Jamie Vaughan-Ryall set up the scoring chance for Harry Saunders.
Sidmouth led 2-1 soon after the break, Craig Veal netting from the penalty spot after the ball had been handled in the box following a long throw-in.
Wellington hit back but found the Sidmouth defence uncompromising before Ryan Gilpin put the tie to bed with a third goal after good work by Saunders and Louis Spalding.
In the First Round Proper, Sidmouth have been drawn at home against Barnstaple Town of the Western League. The tie, one of 105 to be played, takes place on October 19th.
Honiton Town playing their first match at home in the Vase went down 2-0 to Torpoint Athletic, who are also members of the Western League.
The visitors, who had to replace their goalkeeper before the start of the match, led 1-0 at the break with a good finish from Jed Smale and they sealed the tie in the second half when Gary Hird broke away to score.
Dan Tavender was named as Honiton’s Man of the Match in what was an even well-contested game with the home side failing to take their chances
There were team raising problems again at Axminister Town who could not field a side for the tie at Elburton Villa.
The match was therefore forfeit with Elburton going into the next stage automatically and Axminster hoping to get back into action this week.
All three Peninsula League East clubs have league matches again this Saturday (September 28th).
Axminister Town and Honiton Town entertain Torridgeside and New Abbot Spurs respectively while Sidmouth make the trip to Torrington.
