Axminster Town secured their first win under manager Mark Scott, taking three points in the Peninsula League East with a 4-3 victory against Torrington.
The team remain at the bottom of the league table, however, even though the win cancels the penalty incurred earlier in the season for calling off a game.
With early pressure from Axminster, Sam Dibling scored the match's first goal with a well-placed lob, which his teammate, Owen Dibling, followed up 25 minutes later with another successful run, before Torrington narrowed the lead with a header before half-time.
Returning to the field, Sam Dibling got his second goal to give Axminster a lead of 3-1, but Torrington made a strong effort to level the scoreline at 3-3.
During the match, Bailey Galloway’s attempt was cleared off the line and the game was paused for thirty minutes while Axminster’s Jake England received medical treatment.
Just when the game was anticipated a draw, Daniel Magee, a new signing declared man of the match, made an impression with a long-range shot that saw the ball find the net while the goalkeeper was off his position.
Meanwhile, in another part of the league, Sidmouth Town lost their first match of the season to Newton Abbot Spurs, suffering a 2-0 defeat.
Despite starting strong, Sidmouth couldn’t capitalise on their early chances and Louis Jagger Cane’s extra touch in the box saw a lost opportunity.
Craig Veal was substituted out early due to injury and Sidmouth conceded a goal as a result of confusion at the back, leaving Tom Lobb to score.
Their fate was sealed when Callum Noyes scored the second goal for Newton Abbot.
Lastly, despite difficult conditions, Honiton Town managed to salvage a 1-1 draw against Bridport in the Peninsula League East.
The game saw an even start following Honiton goalkeeper Scott Wells Burr's two early saves.
Despite an opportunity in the seventeenth minute, Bridport were denied a lead when Isaac House's penalty shot was blocked by Wells Burr.
The visitors got a late goal to level the score, with the ball ricocheting off Kieran Daniels and into the net, following a daring dash and cross from Kyle Howell.
This late game change brought the nail-biting competition to an end, with Honiton landing a well-earned point.
