Honiton 1sts locked horns with Braunton for the season finale which resulted in a mid-table finish.
The sunny cricket clash in Braunton had all the makings of a potboiler after the Honiton team fuelled up with a hearty breakfast.
The day began with Haysom winning the toss, electing to bat first.
Canniford and Haysom were up for the challenge, looking to end the fierce season on a high.
Despite hitting some impressive boundaries, Haysom fell for 26 runs, with his eye keenly on the treasured batting trophy.
Nathan Groves, returning to the 1st team, too hoped for a descent quick-fire.
However, his elegant shots continually found fielders, flirting with danger when a quick single almost led to his downfall.
Canniford's boundaries and a bit of luck garnered him 17 runs before his journey halted.
Conway delivered a good performance with swift runs through slips before Groves lost his wicket to a ball that spun and turned, making only 3 runs.
Shortly after, Holmes was dismissed for 7 runs after a beautiful play at the crease.
Iteration continued as Hext, an injured player, entered the game.
He started steadily, hoping to minimise further injury as Hext and Hooper scored a joint 31 runs.
The rest of the tail end – Ostler, Kelly, Lapping and Knight – only managed to muster 10 runs between them.
With a target of 120 runs, Braunton stepped into bat, a victory ensuring they would lay claim to the league title.
Holmes started the innings by taking the first wicket in the opening overs while Ostler faced a targeted attack which led to a few chances.
A subsequent running out kept Holmes in the race for the bowling trophy.
Knight swapped out Ostler and instantly scored a wicket with his first ball, followed by a couple more later on.
He truly made his mark having the most successful stint of the season as Braunton lost their fourth wicket at the score of 95.
The game truly balanced on a knife-edge with the score at 102 for 5, then 113 for 6 and finally hanging by a thread at 117 for 7.
Unfortunately for Ostler, the last batter played a smashing shot that ended the game by ploughing over his head.
Knight impressed with a figure of 4 for 27 and a deserving wicket each went to Holmes and Ostler.
As the final ball was struck, another competitive season culminated in a middle-of-the-table conclusion.
Skipper Haysom extended his gratitude to everyone for their unwavering support throughout the season.
