The Axe Cliff Golf Club has had a busy week, marking a historic achievement- the club's first hole-in-one in ages.
Making a hole in one on the first difficult par at Axe Cliff is a rarity, but Ant Critchfield recently achieved the impressive feat during a Mashers Wednesday Roll Up competition.
After over two decades of no such occurrence, Critchfield's successful drive became the talk of the club.
His ball clipped the top of the bunker at the entrance to the hole and then rolled up the slope of the green, marking the end of an era without a hole-in-one on this challenging first hole.
Ant's moment of triumph was captured in a photo by Alex Taylor, the course manager, where Ant can be seen celebrating his success.
All agree that it might be quite some time before they witness another hole-in-one at this particular hole.
Additionally, senior members at Axe Cliff recently partook in a Magic Multiplier game and played in teams of three.
The rules are simple: each team member's stableford score counts on each hole and is multiplied, but the sting in the tail is that if one fails to score, the team gets zero points on that hole.
Despite the pressure, the team of Simon Wellington, Richard Edghill and young Mark Wisby emerged victorious, scoring an impressive 145 points.
The week wrapped up with the Men's Section engaging in their combined Scratch and Handicap Cups, resulting in some notable achievements.
Matt Coburn was crowned this year's Scratch Champion with a score of 76, followed closely by Robert Ballard with 78.
Brad Burraston landed the third spot with a score of 79.
On the same day, Ballard also captured the Handicap Cup with his 78-13=65, Luke Snell snagged the second spot with his 79- 12=67, and Coburn, on countback, was placed third with 76-9=67.
Currently, the Axe Cliff course is in fantastic condition, ready for the annual Seniors Invitational to be held next month.
This event allows the club to welcome and entertain members of other clubs for a grand trophy and prizes.
Members are encouraged to get their applications in promptly.
Despite the challenges the Axe Cliff course presents, the recent achievements have boosted the morale at the club, reminding everyone of the thrills of the sport.
The buzz is real, with anticipation building for more memorable performances in the future.
