Honiton 2s' match against Axminster was a low-scoring affair but with a close finish.
Honiton were put into bat by the visitors and made a solid enough start, finding themselves 30-2 off the first ten overs with both openers seeing the stumps knocked over.
Lewis Blackwell and Harry Haysom steadied the ship with a 50 partnership before a run out ended Lewis' innings on 31.
Harry continued to make runs before being caught out just 3 short of his fifty. He was assisted by Will Smith who made a quick fire 22. Honiton finished their 40 overs 148/6.
Feeling a few runs short of a really competitive score Honiton's bowlers and fielders kept Axminster's runs to a minimum despite not being able to make a breakthrough with early wickets.
It took until the 28th over for Honiton to take their only wicket of the game, Rich Hill forcing a mistimed shot from B Conway giving Martin Willmington a simple catch.
The visitors at this point were 86 -1 off 28 overs and hope was that the game was starting to swing Honiton's way.
Axminster held on however and some big late hits from D Larcombe won the game for Axminster but not until the 39th over.
Will Smith and Rich Hill were the most economic of the Honiton bowlers going for under 3 runs per over.
Thanks to Jim Tucker for umpiring and Martin Wilmington for this week's match report.
