Honiton 2s made the trip to play Thorverton 3rds in the hope to put the first two games of the season behind them.
Upon arriving to Clyst Hydon, however, an afternoon of predicted rain resulted in a delayed match and the loss of four overs on each side.
In spite of weather woes, the blue sky and soft outfield marked a promising beginning.
Half an hour later, the teams were met with heavy rain.
The match finally commenced at 1.30pm, after bouts of rain subsided.
Honiton's captain Steve Haysom lost the toss and the team was poised to bat first.
The game started well, with the team studying the slightly unpredictable bounce, and would've made some boundaries, if not for the slow outfield.
Martin Wilmington partnered with Steve, looking poised and comfortable, before being caught at square leg with a score of 9.
He was then substituted by Harry Haysom who joined his father on the pitch.
The pair appeared promising until clouds gathered and a rain cover was called, pausing the game at 76/1.
At the time of the interruption, Steve's score was at 22 not out and Harry was at 17.
Another burst of short but heavy rain saw a hopeful resumption of play being dismissed.
Weather conditions worsened just before a final decision about the match was due, resulting in the abandonment of the game.
Honiton's first win of the season continues to elude them, but their spirits remains undeterred.
They are hopeful of securing a win in next week's match against Axminster.
