Kilmington Cricket Club is preparing to host its first primary school cricket festival this month.
The sporting event, scheduled for May 17, will take place at the Arthur Hitchcock Memorial Ground from 10am to 2pm.
Under the stewardship of Kilmington Cricket Club U11 Youth Coach, Eddie Clarke, the cricket tournament will encompass teams from six local schools.
This includes Kilmington Primary School, St Mary's Catholic Primary School, Axminster, Shute Primary, All Saints C of E Primary School, Mrs Ethelston's C of E Primary School, and The Woodroffe School.
It has got backing from Mr Damien Price, East Devon Club and Community Coach at the Devon Cricket Foundation, and will enlist Woodroffe School's senior pupils to assist in management.
The festival is one of the numerous ventures initiated for local youth cricket, organized by the Kilmington & District Youth Cricket Club — an alliance between the Kilmington, Chardstock and Axminster Cricket Clubs.
The collaboration also plans a series of youth cricket training sessions:
- Dynamos (9 years and under) training at Axminster Cricket Club, Fridays 6-7pm run by Mark Burrough,
- Under 11 (Year 6 and below) training at Kilmington Cricket Club, Monday's 6-7pm run by Eddie Clarke,
- Under 12s and U13s (years 7 and 8) training at Kilmington Cricket Club Tuesdays 6-7pm run by Rob Hutchings and Eddie Clarke. U12 matches played at Chardstock,
