Seaton Tennis Club has launched a free adult beginner coaching programme in memory of one of its long-term members.
The Arthur Ackerley Coaching Programme 2024 is a six-week course running on Saturdays from 1pm to 2pm, starting on May 11.
Arthur was still playing tennis into his late 80s, before his sad passing in January 2024.
Though he played at a high level all over the world, he also had a passion for welcoming people to the game.
Following his death, Arthur’s family created a generous memorial fund to enable the club to offer free adult coaching and introduce new people to the pleasure that tennis can bring.
If you’re interested, you can sign up to the course via the club’s website at lubspark.lta.org.uk/SeatonCricketLawnTennisClub/Coaching/ArthurAckerley
In Arthur’s memory, the club is also inviting local schools and community groups to visit the club for free taster sessions.
The programme started on April 25 with the visit of 250 children from Seaton Primary School over a 5-hour period, and further community sessions are planned.
If you’re interested in organising a visit, contact the club at seatontennis@gmail.com, or phone head coach Joe Waters directly on 07497 618240.
