The wet weather and waterlogged pitches blighting grassroots sport allowed us another delve into the local archives with Dick Sturch.
This fabulous picture is of the Colyton Grammar School 1st X1 Football Team in 1957-58. There are two players in the photo, Mike Marsh (Capt with the ball) and on his left Martin Leach (I am next to him).
They were two of Axminster's leading sportsmen, playing both cricket and football for the town and the County. Martin had a sparkling all-round sporting career in front of him, which was tragically cut short by a car accident during his student days.
Mike came back to teach at Colyton Grammar School, he was a prodigious run-scorer in cricket and also took up the whistle refereeing football matches in the local leagues. Happy memories from sporting days gone by and, when the rain stops, local sport will build more memories for the future.
