Four Axe Valley Pedallers have successfully completed the infamous Dartmoor Devil Audax, writes Clive Heard.
An Audax is a cycle ride that has to be completed within a set time limit, including any stops to eat and rest. It's not a race, but that doesn't make it easy. Riders are expected to be self-sufficient, which means navigation and dealing with mechanical issues are down to you.
The Dartmoor Devil Audax has a particularly tough route, 69 miles with 6900ft of climbing. Starting from Bovey Tracey, it takes in Drewsteignton, Holne, Princetown and Postbridge. The final hurdle is the climb of Widecombe Hill and, after a long day in the saddle, that's tough going.
Weather remained bright for the majority of the ride, only about 30 mins of heavy rain was endured on the approach to Princetown.
Well done Gaz Blackett, Pete Simpson, Richard Salisbury and Clive Heard who completed the route.
