The final meeting of the Wiscombe Park speed hillclimb season was held recently – the Manor Farm event. The weekend not only included cars, but bikes, sidecars and trikes too, writes Nigel Cole.
The main focus for a number of the drivers was the final two rounds of the Wiscombe Tillicoultry Quarries Championship with four drivers on the same number of points and only separated by a fraction of a point.
The four Championship contenders were all on fine form keeping up the pressure on each other. Paul Reynolds won Class C4; Ian Ingleheart won Class B3; Julian Rinaldi won Class A1 and Ed Hollier set the Fastest Time of the Day in Class E1 – 36.11s.
It was good to see some drivers making their Wiscombe Park debuts including Worth Birkill, Luke Ashley and Iain Milford.
On two and three wheels, two riders tied for FTD – Tom Short and Tommy Hodges – both riding KTM SMR’s - they set identical times of 42.38s.
On Sunday, it was all the rapid drivers from Saturday who were out to make it a “weekend double” - messrs. Reynolds, Rinaldi, Ingleheart and Hollier all winning their classes again! Ed Hollier claiming FTD – 40.98s - in his Force HC single seater racing car.
The NHCA competitors were again in action on their bikes – this culminated in a Top Ten Run Off – and on the very last run of the day Peter Short – KTM - claimed FTD and maximum Championship
After the meeting, the final Championship points were calculated, and it was announced that Taunton MC member Paul Reynolds had clinched the title in his Caterham Hayabusa. Last year’s Champion, Ian Ingleheart - Westfield SE - from Plymouth finished runner up and Ed Hollier – Force HC - was third.
It has been a fantastic year of speed hillclimbing for Torbay Motor Club’s Jon Langmead, from Kenton. This season he has been competing in the 24 Round BHC Cup which has taken him to courses all over the UK.
The final event was held recently at Loton Park and Jon has finished top of his Class, A(i), in his Lotus Elise 135 R, and a magnificent 6th place overall. He was just 10 points behind the Champion, Johnathen Varley, in his GWR Raptor.
