Honiton Town Reserve hosted Uplyme 1st team at the weekend, with both teams in the position of whoever won took the top spot in the league.
Honiton started by pressing Uplyme fast, Tom Lipscomb took a good first touch to cross for Jenson Phillips to head goalwards but the Uplyme ‘keeper made a top save. Thankfully, Jamie Faulkner followed up to score the opening goal for Honiton to take the lead.
Russell Bracey produced an excellent save to retain the advantage before Ryan Murphy went close with a header for the Hippos. Honiton kept up the pressure and got their deserved second goal when Jamie Faulkner won the ball in midfield and fed Jake Battishill for an exquisite lobbed finish.
Uplyme responded with a penalty to make it 2-1 at the interval but the Hippos restored their cushion with a sweetly struck free-kick from Lipscomb.
Debutants Jamie Hooper and Josh Bradley emerged from the bench to make an instant impact but another Uplyme penalty set up a tense finish. Miles Barron calmed the nerves with a screamer to confirm a 4-2 win.
The Honiton coaches said: “We want to say a massive thank you to our food sponsor “Full Of Beans” the food was incredible and both teams left happy.”
