The Tolchards Devon Cricket League season is complete, the champions are crowned, promoted teams look forward to a new challenge and those suffering relegation will strive to rebuild.
Sandford knew the Premier Division title was in their cabinet last week but still rounded off with a powerful nine-wicket win at Cornwood. Bradninch & Kentisbeare finished runners-up. Bovey Tracey and North Devon are going down, although North Devon did end their campaign with a six-wicket victory over Plympton.
The A Division went down to the final day in deciding who would join Plymouth in the top flight. Torquay did their job in beating relegated Clyst St George but they needed Kilmington to slip up at home to the champions.
Kilmington refused to oblige, crushing Plymouth by eight wickets for a place in the Premier. Budleigh Salterton finished bottom of the division.
Bridestowe are champions of the B Division, finishing off in style with a comfortable win at Bovey Tracey 2nds, and the little club from the Moors will be joined in the second tier by Plymstock, who thrashed Sandford 2nds to deny Cullompton a promotion spot. Seaton and Sandford 2nds are the two relegated teams.
Only one team from C Division East and C Division West go up to the B Division, and Teignmouth and Shaldon were the runaway winners of the East section, losing only twice all season. Shobrooke Park and North Devon 2nds are the sides going down.
Stoke Gabriel were even more dominant in their control of the West section, suffering just one defeat all summer. Dartington & Totnes and Babbacombe are the two relegated teams.
Exeter 2nds were comfortable in their victory of the D Division East but the second promoted slot went down to the wire. Budleigh Salterton 2nds had to beat Barnstaple & Pilton on the final day, and they did it by 92 runs, leaving Whimple just two points behind in third. Heathcoat 3rds and Feniton made up the bottom two.
Paignton 2nds romped to the D Division West title, with South Devon CC well clear in second. Chelston & Kingskerswell finished bottom by some margin but there was heartbreak for Kenn, who, despite beating Hatherleigh 2nds by 130 runs on Saturday, went down by a single point. Lewdown just escaped the drop.
Bradninch & Kentisbeare 2nds won E Division East and will be promoted alongside Ottery St Mary 2nds, while Plymouth Civil Service and Roborough triumphed in E Division West, where Abbotskerswell 2nds claimed second by a point.
Bovey Tracey 3rds and Kingsbridge 2nds were relegated from the West section but there was drama in the East, as Sidmouth 3rds escaped relegation with a final day win over Braunton 2nds, sending Clyst St George 2nds down with Sidbury, who have mounted a brilliant but unsuccessful survival fight over recent weeks.
Cullompton 2nds and Culmstock were the dominant duo in F Division East, with Kilmington 2nds and Bradninch & Kentisbeare 3rds going down a level. Paignton 3rds strolled to the F Division West title, while Bridestowe 2nds finished as runners-up for a tremendous double at their club. Yelverton Bohemians 2nds and Ashburton 2nds are the teams going down.
Well done to Newton Tracey, winners of G Division East, with Whimple 2nds just pipping Seaton 2nds to the runner-up prize. Honiton 2nds and Feniton 2nds are going down. Brixham 2nds and Stoke Gabriel 2nds are going up from G Division West, with Cornwood 4ths and Bovey Tracey 4ths relegated.
Sandford 3rds mirrored their first-team’s success with victory in H Division East, finishing just four points ahead of Devon Medics & Cranbrook. Ivybridge 3rds had a more comfortable time in winning H Division West, with Plymstock 3rds 29 points behind in second place. Last but definitely not least, Exwick 2nds finished as top of the pile in H Division Central, with Topsham St James well clear of their rivals in second.
