It has taken around 15 years of planning, fundraising, coordinating and implementing, but Honiton Town Football Club finally got to enjoy the fruits of their hard work with a historic midweek game against neighbours Axminster Town.
The fantastic new floodlights at Mountbatten Park were finally switched on for a match-day and the occasion, if not the final result, was magnificent for the Hippos.
On the pitch, an early double from Craig Veal ultimately gave Axminster a 2-0 victory, moving the Tigers to within two points of fifth-placed Newton Abbot Spurs. For Honiton Town, there will be plenty of great nights ahead and all under the brilliant glare of their floodlights.
The Hippos followed their big night with a daunting trip to title-chasing Brixham and were unable to hold back the Fishermen, who triumphed 5-0. A solitary strike from Charlie Wilson was enough for Axminster to secure a second win in three days at home to Holsworthy.
