Axe Valley Pedallers leisure riders took a chance on the weather and after a good coffee stop at the Honey Farm near Blackberry Camp decided to return via Nanny's Water.
The previous week saw John Hodgetts dip his toe into the world of Cyclo -Cross racing at an event around the grounds of Escott and, although the course was muddy, it remained fairly dry, so he enjoyed the experience and will be back for more.
In a trip up to Scotland, Jonathan Read-Bone was surprised to find in the Edinburgh museum a quadruplet cycle, apparently the last known one remaining and dating from the late 1890's.
It was used to pace cyclists on a track to get them up to speed, but was replaced in the early 1900's by a single rider on a motorised bike called a Derny, again used to pace cyclists up to a high speed at the start of Keirin track racing events.
