The AVP racing season is now well under way as Jimmy Richards and Ethan Huntley took part in their first massed start race of the year in Mid Devon Spring Circuit Racing, held at Torbay Velo Park.
Due to Covid restrictions, each race was limited to 20 riders maximum and also time and distance limited. This event was for 3rd and 4th category riders and they both rode in two races.
Jimmy finished 10th in his first race but improved up to 5th in the second race, an excellent result, and Ethan in his first attempt at racing and despite riding with injuries, was pleased to complete the distances and will be back again for more punishment.
Richard Gorst continued with his good form in the Torq Breakout Mountain Bike Endurance race at Frimley Green. He said it was an awesome day with three hours racing full gas on a lumpy, dusty, stumpy mainly single track and, despite crashing off several times, he still managed a very creditable 4th place.
On the leisure side of the club, six riders went on an exploratory mission to find the remains of the old Chard Canal, stopping for a roadside picnic at Gawbridge Bow.
The 44-mile route took them through Crimbleford Knapp, on past Chinnock Brook, then through Martock and Kingsbury Escopi, Broadmead Drove, and Beercrocombe to eventually find the somewhat stagnant remains of the canal. A great day out in beautiful sunshine enjoyed by all.
Also on the leisure scene, John and Sue Hodgetts took themselves off to North Yorkshire for a short break with bikes to test out their fitness up the Yorkshire Hills, managing to keep the bikes clean in such brilliant weather.
As a club, we have numerous rides during the week, such as the Friday Flyers, the Wednesday Wibblers, the Monday Mavericks and Meanderers, the evening Chain Gang, the Saturday coffee club, as well as Sunday monthly rides, all normally including refreshment stops when restrictions allow.
