A SEATON mum has launched a GoFundMe campaign after her son Jasper was diagnosed with a life-threatening condition.

Jasper Bolsover started displaying symptoms on October 30 with a spiked temperature at first yet his conditions have gradually worsened and so he was taken to Exeter hospital on November 1.

After some “concerning” blood test results and the discovery of what looked like an abscess on his liver he was transferred to Bristol hospital on November 3 for further testing.

Once the test results came back Jasper was diagnosed on November 4 with something called HLH – an incredibly rare life-threatening condition which has been triggered by the glandular fever virus.

Jasper’s mum Harri Gamwell said: “Jasper is a very poorly boy, he is currently sedated and intubated, tonight he will start chemotherapy as that is the best way to tackle these horrid cells. It destroys me to say that there is a chance that this could be too much for his little body and he will be taken from us but everything possible is being done for him and its now just a waiting game to see how he reacts to treatment and if his body is strong enough.”

She went on to add that this is going to be a “very tough long road” for their family.

Jasper is now off his ventilator and is on a constant cocktail of drugs, he is still receiving chemotherapy, blood transfusions, will be having a Hickman line inserted, may need a bone marrow transplant and will have a lumbar puncture done but is awake and even managed to give his mum a small smile in hospital.

Harri said she will keep us updated on the progress of Jasper and has said after this is over, she will do “everything she can to increase awareness of HLH”.
