THE Act of Remembrance and Armistice days were commemorated with two acts of worship organised by the Axminster Branch of The Royal British Legion.
At 10.20am Sunday, November 10 a procession led by the Branch Standards marched around the town to the War Memorial on the Minster Green.
Mr Richard Foord, MP, was present at the Remembrance Day events taking place at Axminster Minster Green, with over 100 children from all the local schools including: All Saints CE Primary School, Axminster Community Primary Academy, Axe Valley Academy, Membury Primary Academy, Mrs Ethelston's Primary Academy, Uplyme, St Andrew's CE Primary Academy, Chardstock and St Mary's RC Primary School, Axminster.
The Reverend Geoffrey Walsh, Chaplain to Royal British Legion Branch led a service attended by over 300 people, including: Reverend Nicky Davies, who gave the Remembrance Day blessing, Mr Andrew Kennon, a Deputy Lieutenant of Devon, who laid a wreath on behalf of King Charles III, the Mayor of Axminster Jill Farrow, the RBL branch member Mr Mervyn Symes who read the Axminster Roll of Honour, and Mr Andrew Starr who sounded the last post, on his cornet.
This was all followed by the traditional two minutes silence to remember the soldiers who fell for our nation in war.
Many wreathes were then laid on the Axminster war memorial.
The school children in attendance also helped in the leading of the service with readings of poems and prayers, each child inserting a named wooden poppy cross into the RBL Garden of Remembrance whilst the Axminster Roll of Honour was read.
The proceedings then concluded with refreshments in the Minster.
