IN light of the recent US election results, Richard Foord, MP for Honiton and Sidmouth, and the wider Liberal Democrat party have shared their thoughts on Trump’s return to The White House.

Today (Wednesday, November 6) Donald Trump, 78, was elected the 47th president of the United States winning the race - during which he was convicted of felonies including rape and survived an assassination attempt.

The Liberal Democrats have shared their thoughts on the election results with us, saying that this is a “dark day for people around the globe.”

A spokesperson for the Liberal Democrat party said: “The world’s largest economy and most powerful military will be led by a dangerous, destructive demagogue.

“The next President of the United States is a man who actively undermines the rule of law, human rights, climate action, international trade and global security.

"Millions of Americans – especially women and minorities – will be fearful about what comes next. We stand with them."

Richard Foord MP said: “Now more than ever, we must stand up for the core liberal values of equality, democracy, human rights and the rule of law – at home and abroad.

"Families across East Devon will be worrying about the damage Trump may do to our economy and our national security, given his record of starting trade wars, undermining NATO and emboldening tyrants like Putin.

“I am very concerned about the implication of Trump's win on the UK’s security, NATO and the war in Ukraine.

"This must be a wake-up call for the Government. If the US withdraws support from Ukraine, then Europe must get its act together.  That must start by seizing frozen Russian assets now and repurposing them for the good of Ukraine and reversing the Conservative cuts to our armed forces to keep Britain secure.”
