Did you remember to put the clocks back?

You have to wonder how any of us remembered to do it before the advent of social media to remind us, but then again, was there even ‘life’ before Facebook and Twitter, now X, not to mention all the other platforms?

But what a wonderful thing it is, on the odd occasion, when it isn’t someone saying something they perhaps oughtn’t, or the ‘you can’t park there’ brigade, dog poo or bus stop banter.

This month we had a very positive outcome from one of our posts, when an anonymous donor gave us a big chunk of money towards replacing the defunct defibrillator in the theatre porch.

Watch this space for updates on the installation.

Talking of your health, one of the extraordinary Gateway Theatre volunteers, Mandy, who runs a community Tea & Chat in the theatre, also organised a one-off visit from the local surgery to administer COVID and flu vaccines.

Word soon spread via social media, and the visit became popular.

Luckily the nurses thought it would be a good idea to bring along extra supplies.

Haven’t there been some very odd goings-on going on, and not just on social media, which is always a parallel universe of lunacy?

The weathermen have been giving us amber and yellow warnings left, right, and centre.

I remember the time when the only yellow weather-related warning was, don’t eat the yellow snow.

But we don’t get any of that either now the world is several degrees warmer, and from my theatre crow’s nest office window, I can see people walking around town with their summer string vests, flip-flops, and shorts on, alongside the bobble hat-wearing brigade.

Talking of which, we’ve cranked up the heat with our programme.

People are still talking about the fantastic Moscow Drug Club performance, and if you missed out, don’t worry, they are returning in 2025.

And it was an absolute joy to have Henry Normal back, this time with Nigel Planer, telling stories and anecdotes, followed by book signings afterwards thanks to Jenny from the Owl & Pyramid who had a pop-up shop.

Did I tell you about the roses I received?

There was no message, nothing, just a box of very pretty ‘living’ roses awaiting my return one day.

I’ve since found out who sent them.

And whilst we’re on the subject of secrets, I raised the question regarding the future of the Arts & Culture East Devon organisation when the new Torbay and Devon Council take over next year, and how the Arts, in general, will be supported, but no one knows.

Maybe we should ask the question on Facebook, I bet there’s someone on there who knows, and even if they don’t, they’ll say they do, and if it’s said online, then it must be true.
