Axe Vale Orchestra captivated audiences with their weekend concert.
The performance, titled Home Grown, took place at the Gateway in Seaton on Sunday, October 20.
The concert showcased an array of music by renowned British composers, including Holst, Stanford, Elgar, and Arnold, all of which were played with notable sensitivity, passion, and enlightenment.
Holst’s Moorside Suite was highlighted as capturing the lyrical English folk idiom, with echoes of the familiar Planets, particularly noted in the side drum in the final movement.
Elgar’s Nursery Suite was said to reflect the range of emotion familiar to audiences, but from the perspective of early childhood, with one concert-goer noting the contrast between the Serious and Sad Doll’s short movements, which were extremely well played with a tricky, but "well-executed" solo by flautist Jane Smith.
Stanford’s A Minor Clarinet Concerto was played brilliantly by 17-year-old schoolgirl, Faye Mayer.
The concert concluded with Malcolm Arnold's Little Suite, which was noted for its suitability to the orchestra.
Axe Vale Orchestra's Home Grown concert proved to be a thrilling display of talent and artistry, offering an afternoon of musical entertainment to all attendees.
