MARKET Charter Day organisers handed over a £700 cheque in support of the Royal British Legion Honiton branch - the committee's nominated charity for 2024.
Now firmly established in Honiton’s annual calendar, every July sees stallholders and shopkeepers getting involved in the spirit of "Charter Day", alongside a variety of entertainments and activities in the town centre.
The event gives the opportunity for local charities and groups to raise funds and also to showcase all they offer to the community - for example, the Honiton Lions always organise a classic car show as part of the day.
Charter Day is supported by an annual grant from Honiton Town Council, plus a small donation from Honiton Chamber of Commerce.
This year the event also received support from Devon County Council's Locality Budget, via local county councillor Phil Twiss.
Despite poor weather affecting attendance on the day, the event still managed to make a small profit and, together with a fantastic £500 donation from Dunkeswell-based company Supacat, the committee has recently been able to hand over a cheque for £700 in support of the Royal British Legion Honiton branch - the committee's nominated charity for 2024.
Next year's Charter Day will be held on Saturday, July 19 2025.
