The Family Law Company has launched a new campaign to spotlight someone who has shown bravery in their life.
The winning prize offers the chance of a luxury stay at Bovey Castle. Over the past few years, the company has developed internal core values based on the concept of being brave.
Now, it has taken the idea a step further, with the release of a series of short films highlighting the everyday bravery of individuals who have shown courage in the face of a variety of life challenges.
Featuring interviews with eight local people, topics include surviving domestic abuse, overcoming language barriers, living with extreme post-natal depression and finding the courage to pursue a successful career after having a stroke at the age of just 28. Filmed sensitively by David Kilkelly, each story carries a positive message showing how being courageous has helped the person to get through.
The Everyday Bravery campaign was officially launched at Plymouth Arts Cinema where a number of the interviewees plus invited guests from the legal and business community were amongst the first to see the finished films.
To mark the launch, The Family Law Company is seeking more stories of everyday bravery, with nominees having the chance of enjoying a luxury stay at award-winning Bovey Castle Hotel & Spa on Dartmoor.
Business development director, Kerry England said: “For over 30 years now, The Family Law Company has stood beside those making brave decisions in their lives. We’ve been inspired by all kinds of bravery from so many people, which is why we decided to make it our core value.
“If you listen closely enough lots of people have a story about having to find their courage at different times in their lives - myself included - but it often goes unnoticed. So we want to celebrate more examples of this type of bravery. Not the ‘superhero’ type of bravery, but bravery that is part of everyday life.”
The company is asking for nominations from members of the public who know someone who fits this description of everyday bravery.
Every nomination will be considered by an independent panel which will choose the story that stands out most to them, plus two runners up. Panel members include: Annette Stone
from accountancy and business consultancy Azets, Mike Bee from Big Box Media, Rachel Buckley, Joint-MD at The Family Law Company, Helen Hoskin of Devon and Plymouth Chamber of Commerce and the General Manager of Bovey Castle, Dean Gunston, who has offered the generous main prize.
Kerry added: “The top nominee will enjoy an exceptional two-day break at Bovey Castle, together with a choice of extras, perhaps a session at the hotel’s Elan Spa & Studio, a round on the hotel’s 18-hole Championship golf course or a guided Dartmoor tour, making this a really special experience, a true celebration of their bravery. We will also be choosing two further nominees, who will receive beautiful hampers from Bespoke and Local, crammed with lovely locally sourced treats to spoil themselves with.
“Remember, this doesn’t have to be a spectacular example of bravery but simply something that has taken courage.”
To nominate someone who has been brave in any capacity, large or small, in their lives, visit the company’s website and choose the Everyday Bravery tab, where there is also a link to the films on YouTube.
Nominations close on January 31 2025 and the results will be announced in early February.
