The trainline between Honiton and Axminster, which was closed last Tuesday (August 20) after a landslip has re-opened to trains.
Network Rail announced the line is open again on Monday (August 26) after contractors were working 'around the clock' over the Bank Holiday weekend. The line was closed and teams were working to build a wall and improve the drainage at Honiton tunnel, which is prone to collapsing after heavy rainfall.
A spokesman for Network Rail said: "Overnight on August 25, engineers finished boring the 8 6m deep holes which will form the base of the wall. Each hole then needed to have the water pumped out, before concrete was poured in We’ve just completed piling the steel beams in this morning, which involved hammering the large steel girders into place
"Next steps are to install the timbers, which are the horizontal parts of the wall which will protect the track We are also clearing the drainage of the railway to help remove any excess water, as well as closely monitoring the embankment for any more movement
"We’re very pleased to say that trains are running through Honiton today. Once again we’re sorry to South Western Railway customers for the disruption over the past week and we’d like to thank you for your patience while we carried out these critical repairs."
