Oksana Merhut, a Ukrainian sand-animation artist, will come to perform in Honiton this September.

Audiences will be offered a unique opportunity to see sand animation, an artform, widely used in Ukraine since 2006.

Sand animation is a form of art, where the artist creates live pictures in the sand. One image transforms seamlessly into another on a screen accompanied by music and storytelling (bilingual – Ukrainian and English).

The sand artist, Oksana Merhut, has a huge following in Ukraine and Europe for her sand animations. She is the winner of multiple talent shows and founder of the Sand Art Academy in Ukraine. With a light wave of her hands, she instantly transforms the sand to create mesmerizing worlds.

Oksana is Laureate of the Order of the First President of Ukraine "Guardian of Ukraine" and founder of the First Professional School of Sand Animation.

The performance will be held for Ukrainian hosts, refugees and the wider local community.

This mesmerising show will be take place at The Beehive, Honiton on Saturday 14 September at midday. There are two thematic parts to the performance:

The Star-Child inspired by Oscar Wilde’s fable.

Prayer for Ukraine. The artist’s interpretation of current events in order to raise awareness of the war in Ukraine.
