The Sidmouth & East Devon Walking Festival returns for its 11th year.
The annual event allows people to discover the beauty of East Devon and its iconic East Devon Way.
The festival, held from September 14 to 20, offers a full programme of 24 daily walks, including the chance to walk the entire 40-mile length of the East Devon Way over five days.
All walks are free and led by experienced volunteer guides, though must be booked in advance.
The only cost is a £10 daily charge for those participating in the East Devon Way walk, accounting for transportation from Sidmouth to starting points and back each day.
The walking trail provides a remarkable insight into East Devon's picturesque landscape, rich heritage and natural beauty, far from the beaten track.
The East Devon Way, a 40-mile walking route, meanders through captivating woodlands, heathlands, rolling hills, valleys, and coastal paths.
It serves as a tranquil retreat from daily life, offering a peaceful exploration of the area's diverse terrain.
Aside from the East Devon Way, the festival also presents a selection of 19 guided walks suitable for all interests and fitness levels.
These range from leisurely strolls to challenging hikes, and fascinating guided walks led by expert guides.
Some highlighted will include The Lower Otter Restoration Project with ranger Rick Lockwood, a Flora and Fauna walk on East Budleigh Common led by Naturalist Graham Jones, and a Pebbled Heath Walk with the Conservation Trusts Reserves Manager.
Each guided walk intends to provide a unique and immersive experience, connecting participants with the history and beauty of East Devon.
As part of the festival, walkers will explore the region’s wildlife and natural wonders, and witness the dramatic cliffs and beaches of the Jurassic Coast.
The Walking Festival is not just about exercise but also an opportunity to spot hidden gems of East Devon while reaping the physical and mental benefits of being in nature.
It is suitable for all, whether you're an experienced hiker or a novice walker.
