Doveleigh Care, which has homes in Sidmouth, Seaton and Colyton, is home to four ladies who have all achieved the milestone of 100 years old.
Betty is 103, Doris is 100, Edith is 101 and Mary is 103 on 20th July. The managers arranged a special lunch at Arcot House for them to enjoy whilst sharing their life stories.
They put together some questions of to find out some of their secrets and milestones in their long life so far.
When asked What is the secret to your longevity and good health? Mary said: “The steadfastness and the love of my family. My parents were really lovely.” Doris: “A lot of walking” Betty “living normally, carrying on as always.” and Edith added: “Always keep clean and tidy. Never rush around and always remember there’s a tomorrow.”
What is the most important invention of your lifetime?
Mary: “Cars, trains and access to these things which makes travel very important.”
Doris: “Washing machines.”
Betty: “Flying planes.”
Edith: “Televisions.”
What is your best advice you could give to a young person?
Mary: “Not to expect too much. If you want to make it, make it yourself.”
Doris: “Honesty is the best policy.”
Betty: “Live a normal life and accept it as it comes.”
Edith: “Be happy.”
What was the best decade for you?
Mary: “I think the 40’s, my singing, got married and I had children.”
Doris: “1940’s when I got married.”
Betty: “1940’s”
Edith: “When I had my son in 1935.”
