Try new activities and exhibitions at Lyme Regis Museum

Regardless of the weather, the museum guarantees an eventful time for visitors of all ages throughout July and August.

Some of these offerings, full of summer fun, are free with an admission ticket.

Boasting a bustling schedule, the museum is once again running its Summer Rock Pooling Walks, a favourite of many visitors.

The interactive experience lets energetic visitors scour the pools and nooks of Monmouth Beach with none other than Chris Gasson, the West Dorset Forager.

Adventure seekers can further indulge their daring spirit with the Jurassic Coast Adventure Walk.

The museum offers creative outlets for arts and crafts enthusiasts, with regular drop-in sessions of clay modelling, printmaking, or 3D modelling led by artists.

Participants can take home a unique memento inspired by the museum's collections and exhibits.

In addition, the Ghost Walk or History Walk provide insights into the town and its storied past for those keen on learning.

The popular Fossil Walks, adding to the wide array of activities, enables visitors to make a day out of their trip.

A highlight of this season includes the on-display book which once belonged to Mary Anning and was recently returned from Australia after being 'lost' for 40 years.

It can now be found in the Writers' Gallery.

Those interested in fossils will also love the new ‘Plesiosaurus 200’ exhibition in the Geology Gallery, which celebrates 200 years since Mary Anning’s discovery of the first complete plesiosaur.

It explores the history of this ground-breaking discovery and is brought right up-to-date with amazing local modern finds including the second-ever specimen of a very rare new plesiosaur that was the ancestor of Attenborough’s Sea Rex.

Lyme Regis Museum recently received the Travellers Choice Award for 2024, placing it in the top 10% of places to visit worldwide.
