Beer Church of England Primary School and Puffins pre-school had a special visitor on Tuesday (June 25), Mark Hannaford from World Extreme Medicine.
Mr Hannaford was accompanied in person by NASA astronaut Dr Kjell Lindgren. Last year the children were sent some mission patches last year by Kjell and have enjoyed watching a recent video message from him.
His talk was fascinating and he was extremely patient when answering the many questions our children had for him.
Each child also got given a sticker of a previous mission patch which Kjell had kindly brought with him for them – did you know that the astronauts get to design their own mission patches? These are then printed for their clothing.
According to the NASA website, Dr Kjell Lindgren flew on Expedition 44/45 and logged 141 days in space in 2015. He participated in two spacewalks and commanded NASA’s SpaceX Crew-4 mission. He has spent a cumulative total of 311 days in space.
