After Thursday’s vote the Liberal Democrats have swept across the Somerset area, gaining from the Conservatives in almost every constituency including Honiton & Sidmouth.
The only area to remain Conservative was the Bridgwater constituency, meanwhile the Torys lost out to Labour in Weston-super-Mare and North Somerset.
Responding to Lib Dem wins across the South West, including his win in Honiton & Sidmouth, Richard Foord MP said:
“I am deeply humbled and honoured to be re-elected to fight for Devon, the place I am proud to call home.
“This result marks the beginning of a new chapter. People don’t want politicians to promise miracles, but they do want someone who is willing to roll up their sleeves and get to work on the everyday challenges they face.
“Today, people have stood up to demand better and shown that the Liberal Democrats are the true champions of the rural West Country.
“I promise to do all that I can to repay the trust you have placed in me, working night and day to demand better for our rural and coastal communities.”
The Liberal Democrats also picked up new seats after yesterday’s election in Tiverton & Minehead, Taunton & Wellington, Glastonbury & Somerton, Yeovil, Frome & East Somerset, and Wells & Mendip Hills.
