Exeter court reporter Ted Davenport writes for the Herald.
A man has admitted taking a car from outside a house in Broadclyst after stealing its keys from a porch.
Steven Woodward, aged 36, of Arena Park, Exeter, pleaded guilty to burglary and taking a car without consent when he appeared at Exeter Crown Court.
Both offences were committed between July 5 and 6 last year and the burglary involved breaking into a property in Broadclyst a rucksack, gym kit, and keys including those for a Ford Fiesta car.
Judge Stephen Climie adjourned sentence until September 5 to allow time for Woodward to continue working with probation under a community order imposed by magistrates for an unconnected offence.
He told him: “I’m not making any promises but if you behave yourself you are not going to go to prison. If you mess probation about, different considerations may apply.”
