Members of Honiton u3a have marked a successful first half of 2024 with an increasing membership.
A significant number of members have already renewed their membership, as new ones the group to enjoy an increasing array of organised activities.
Monthly illustrated talks at The Beehive and an array of 30 different interest groups ranging from history, languages, music and nature appreciation, to walking, writing and wine tasting are on offer.
The group also plays host to a regular games afternoon.
Newly formed groups, including pickleball and singing for fun, propose a varied range of options, catering to different tastes and experiences.
A spokesperson for u3a said: "Some people think that groups like us exist only to promote the academic interests of their members.
"Learning can mean any number of different things.
"To us, to learn, laugh and live are our watchwords.
"And especially to laugh!"
According to the organisation, research indicates that organisations like u3a enhance wellbeing by promoting friendship and the sharing of experiences.
Honiton u3a encourages its members to develop interests, attempt something new and socialise with like-minded individuals.
At the heart of Honiton u3a's efforts are members' interests and viewpoints.
Richard Spoerry, the chairman of Honiton u3a, said: "We are involving members in the growth and development of Honiton u3a.
"We want our members to feel that they are fully involved."
Honiton u3a recently sought its members' views about new activities they would like.
Following this, a members' meeting on June 7, served as an avenue for idea sharing, question answering and development of plans.
Now, Honiton u3a is set to establish or re-establish six more groups covering French and Spanish, arts and crafts, local history, genealogy and photography.
These groups will meet monthly at local venues, similar to the existing groups.
There are over 1000 u3as with around 400,000 members; membership costs less than £20 on average per year and is open to everyone who’s not working full-time.
