A man has admitted killing a 74-year-old woman who was attacked in a country park but denied murdering her.
Cameron Davis, aged 31, of Exeter Road, Exmouth, admitted manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility but pleaded not guilty to murder when he appeared at Exeter Crown Court today (Thursday May 23).
The attack happened in Febuarary, at the time Lorna's family paid tribute to her. Read more: Family pay tribute to Lorna England after fatal assault
His plea to manslaughter was rejected by the prosecution and he will stand trial at Exeter on June 19 in a case which is expected to last two weeks.
Davis will stand trial for the murder of pensioner Lorna England, who died from stab wounds after being attacked in Ludwell Valley Park, Exeter, on the afternoon of Saturday February 18, 2023.
She lived in nearby Southbrook Road and is not thought to have known Davis before the incident
The trial had originally been due to start at Exeter Crown Court in November last year but was postponed until next week. Judge Mrs Justice Cutts put it back again until next month because other cases are over-running.
She remanded Davis in custody.
