Little Green Change, based in Lyme Regis is in the for the New Kid on the Block category at this year’s The Small Awards.
Now in its eighth year, The Small Awards is a nationwide search for the smallest and greatest firms in the UK, across all sectors.
It is organised annually by Small Business Britain, which champions, inspires and accelerates the nation’s 5.5 million small firms.
Launched just over seven months ago, Little Green Change is a non-profit social enterprise providing environmental education and opportunities for primary and secondary-aged children, both directly in schools and in the community.
All their state-funded school and community activities are free, as they want as many children as possible to benefit equally from their education programmes, events and projects, including those from under-privileged families.
It has been selected as one of just eight finalists for the New Kid on the Block Award for best business start-up, sponsored by TSB; an award that commends businesses that started in the last eighteen months and have demonstrated considerable progress to grow and develop.
With eleven different categories, the Small Awards celebrate the dynamism and resilience exhibited in the UK’s small business sector, across everything from sustainability heroes to digital stars, to long-standing family businesses.
Michelle Ovens CBE, founder of Small Business Britain said: “The Small Awards is all about celebrating the inspiring small business owners who are at the heart of the economy and their communities.
"They are an opportunity to recognise and applaud the passion and resilience of the nation’s small firms, particularly amidst such turbulent times. Little Green Change is extremely deserving of being shortlisted for this award and we can’t wait to celebrate with them in May.”
Clare Matheson, founder and director of Little Green Change said “We are excited to have been shortlisted as a finalist for this award, which recognises the hard work, achievements and dedication shown by Little Green Change colleagues and volunteers.
"We would like to thank all our funders and supporters for helping us to achieve so much in such a short space of time.”
Judged by a panel of industry experts, the winners of all categories, including the overall winner of the Small Business of the Year award, will be announced at a splendid awards ceremony in London on May 16.
The ceremony will this year be held at St Mary’s Church in London, with plans underway for a night of entertainment, inspiration, and celebration for UK’s greatest small businesses.
Little Green Change won the Green/Eco Business of the Year category at the 2024 Jurassic Business Awards in February.
