Honiton Town Council have elected a new interim mayor to stand in until the yearly elections in May.
Councillor Tony McCollum is the current chair of Honiton Town Council and will also stand in as mayor until a replacement can be found during the May Elections.
On January 2, it was announced that former mayor Helen Hurford had resigned from her role with 'immediate effect'.
Speaking on his role, Cllr McCollum said: "It is with great pleasure that I take on the role of Chairperson for Honiton Town Council and that of interim Mayor until the next yearly election in May 2024.
"My role within the Council and Honiton town itself over the last 14 years, has taken me down many roads which have all led me to this point, which I consider the greatest honour.
"Along with my fellow Councillors and staff, we will do our best to move forward and leave the past where it belongs in the past and work for the benefit of our great town and its residents."
In January, Mrs Hurford announced that she was stepping down after only being elected onto the council in June 2023.
Her statement published at the time went on to say she will be moving into a different role and will 'continue to service this and the wider community but in a different capacity.'
