Planning permission has been submitted to alter Eyre Court Hotel in Seaton, which includes building a single-storey extension.
Application 23/2771/FUL aims to build a single-storey front extension as well as demolish a bay window to be replaced with bi-fold lobby on south-east elevation.
The alterations at 2 Queen Street Seaton won't affect the current pub building – a single storey to the front of the pub is 'unobtrusive'.
The extension is proposed to be constructed in painted rendered blockwork to match the existing, and therefore due to scale size, and positioning in the site, wont affect the look of the building.
The proposed structure is modest – the scale mass and form is appropriate to the host building. As the extension is to the front of the pub – the important historical aesthetic of the host building is enhanced and indeed the frontage to Queen Street is improved.
The extension will have "minimal visual impact - single storey with a flat roof and window / doors to match the style of the existing building. As the alterations to the bay window are modest – the important historical aesthetic of the host building is not affected."
The application said: "A public house is classed as a ‘community facility. The proposed extension to the pub, can offer flexible dining space and also a small function room - which could be enjoyed by families and friends for social gatherings, birthdays, small weddings and wakes.
"The proposals will help the viability of the business but also provide community facilities and could help provide facilities to assist with the well being of the local community. Furthermore, the pub will forms part of the network of community facilities - to support the wider council vision.
The application has been submitted to East Devon District Council and will be reviewed by officers before they decide to approve or refuse the application made by the pub landlords.
