Outline planning permission has been sought to convert the former 'The Railway' pub in Queen Street into a 2-bedroom and a three-bedroom home.
Applicant Mike Jeffries, who owns The Railway has applied for 'Prior Approval' to change the use of the pub.
The application says: "From 2008, The Railway has operated as a restaurant and bar, with ancillary accommodation. In 2010, the business was trading positvely, and to support the business, some ancillary letting rooms for those eating were provided as part of an expansion (2010). However, in recent years, the business has proved unviable as a consequence of wider competition within Honiton in terms of the offer of other restaurants and bars. The business has no doubt also suffered because of wider economic issues, such as Covid, increased running costs, the cost of living, and a general move away from market interest in some eatng establishments."
The application will be decided by EDDC officers.
