An East Devon non-profit aims to break three world records in a Christmas fundraiser.
Foodsave CIC, the local zero food waste group, is hosting a marathon indoor bowls match, with the dual goal of smashing records and generating £5000 for their cause.
Spanning 66 hours, from the festive launch on December 2 to completion on December 5, the event will be split between two Devon venues: Seaton Bowls Club and Beer Mariners' Hall.
The marathon match will involve experienced players from both clubs and eager newcomers.
The ambitious goal revolves around indoor bowls, with three world records in sight: the longest duration of indoor bowling, the longest short mat bowling match, and the most individuals participating in a single indoor bowling match.
Two rival teams will go head-to-head in an epic match spanning four days and three nights.
The winners will be revealed at the conclusion of the challenge at Beer Mariners' Hall, where they will be presented with the coveted Foodsave Christmas Challenge Cup.
Expressing his enthusiasm, founder and director of Foodsave CIC, Jake Bonetta said: "We are looking forward to the challenge of breaking three World Records this Christmas.
"With continuous bowling over 66 hours, I can’t wait to bring an extra spotlight to our local bowls clubs as well as the cause of reducing food waste.
"We can’t wait to have you involved!"
Support for the Christmas Challenge 2023 extends to both Seaton and Beer Bowls Clubs, as well as the Beer Mariners’ Hall Management Committee.
In the aftermath of the event, all funds will facilitate expansion with three new community fridges and allow Foodsave to continue preventing food waste across communities.
