In its second year of running, the Dunkeswell Dog show was a ‘pawsome’ success.

The event on Monday, September 18, organised by local dog walking/daycare company Walking Woofs, had a range of fun activities such as pedigree and novelty classes, agility, sniff work and racing.

However, when the team arrived at 6am to set up the venue at Hooked Rise Farm they discovered that all of the preparations from the day before had been blown away by a mini storm at 3am, so they had to work to get the show under way before people arrived. They managed to start the show just as the sun came out.

There was a great turnout of both spectators and contestants. Dogs 'bow-wowed' the judges throughout the day. A stand-out character was Roxy the greyhound who won the competitive timed dash with a speed of just 3.66 seconds. There was also a chance for the handlers to get involved, with Junior Handling classes in three different age categories. The overall winner of Junior Handler was Molly O’Hara with her furry friend Peggy.

Midweek Herald: Jenny and her son

Jenny Rowland of Walking Woofs said: “It's been an utterly exhausting weekend. Running this show is super stressful and really hard work.

"But seeing the smiles on your faces and the enjoyment in the dogs, putting something on for the community and knowing it's all for charity makes it worthwhile. Hugest thanks to you all for attending and supporting, to the farm, to the sponsors, the judges, the traders, our fab show team and families for their hard work.“

The show raised £1000, to be split equally between the Veterans with Pets charity in Exeter and Parkinsons UK.
