THE A35 near Honiton and Axminster was closed for around six hours on Monday morning (August 14) after a car reportedly hit a tree.
Devon and Cornwall Police said that two people were taken to hospital with potentially serious injuries, while three people sustained minor injuries.
Officers were called to the busy road at 4.23am following reports of a single-vehicle crash between Kilmington and Shute near Axminster.
It was reported that the car had been in collision with a tree. The A35 was closed in both directions as emergency crews dealt with the scene.
At around 10.35am, National Highways confirmed the road had re-opened.
A Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Fire control received a call from ambulance service requesting assistance with a road traffic collision on the A35.
“Crews from Axminster and Honiton were mobilised to this incident.
“This incident involved a single vehicle colliding with a tree - all persons were confirmed clear and free from the vehicle and being treated by paramedics on scene.
“Fire crews made the vehicle safe and assisted ambulance by providing casualty care.”
