A crowdfunding campaign has been launched to pay for the restoration of Beer village church’s clock.
The clock on the tower of St Michael’s Church belongs to the village. A plaque in the church explains that it was bought and installed by parishioners in memory of the Honorable Mark GK Rolle, son of the 19th Baron Clinton, ‘Lord of the Manor of Beer and a generous benefactor to this church and village’. He died in 1907. The village still has strong links with the Rolle family, now Clinton Devon Estates.
The parish council has paid for the maintenance of the clock, and the latest annual service showed that extensive work is needed on its mechanism to keep it running for the next 100 years; the clock face itself would also benefit from restoration. The amount quoted for this work is £9,440, which neither the parish council nor the church can afford.
Donations are invited by cheque made out to Beer PCC, which can be handed in at the village shop or Woozie's Deli, or via JustGiving.
