Honiton residents can find out about all the support available to help with the cost-of-living-crisis at an event hosted by Citizens Advice East Devon.
A 'funD day' is taking place at the Beehive on Wednesday, March 1 from 10am until 4pm, with a range of different groups on hand to offer free advice and practical help. The event is being sponsored by Honiton Town Council.
Dean Stewart, CEO of Citizens Advice East Devon, said: “We wanted to do something that was immediate to help residents in Honiton.
“Since we reopened at 118 High Street we have been inundated with people who need immediate financial support to help them through the cost of living crisis. Honiton Town Council have really helped us get the office open and it's great working with them on another initiative.”
Operations Manager Sheran Taylor said: “Our town has been very responsive so far to the cost-of-living crisis and has done everything it can to help residents.
"However, the funD day is about people coming along with their current financial or family circumstances to see if there is anything benefits or grants wise they are missing that they should be applying for.
"I urge anyone with disabilities or long-term illnesses who are not certain that they could get a disability benefit, or people of pension age who might be interested in pension credit, to come along. You can have a confidential chat to one of our experts - and go away knowing for sure that whether there is anything out there for you.”
The day is being hosted by Citizens Advice East Devon but they have invited several other key local organisations that potentially have funds, food or valuable advice to offer the community. There will be town councillors, officers from East Devon District Council, representatives from Richard Foord MP’s office, Exeter Community Energy and FoodSave, among others.
If the Honiton day is a success Citizens Advice are hoping to work with other towns across the region to host similar events in the future.
