Simon Jupp, the MP for East Devon, has been selected to stand in the new Honiton & Sidmouth constituency at the next general election.
He was selected by Conservative Party members at a meeting on Saturday, February 18.
Under changes drawn up by the Boundary Commission, a new constituency is being created for the Honiton and Sidmouth area, and another for Exmouth and eastern parts of Exeter.
The Honiton & Sidmouth constituency also covers locations including Axminster, Beer and Branscombe, Seaton, Ottery and West Hill, Newton Poppleford, Cullompton (North, Outer and South), Dunkeswell and Feniton.
Mr Jupp said he is ‘delighted’ to have been selected to stand for the new constituency.
He said: “As a resident of Sidmouth, home is where the heart is and I'm standing where I'm incredibly proud to live.
“Since I was elected in 2019, I have successfully secured a new school to replace Tipton St John Primary, £15.7m from the Levelling Up Fund, a new police station for Exmouth, and multi-million-pound support for Exeter Airport during the pandemic.
“I have a proven track record and will continue to work hard for everyone I represent in East Devon.”
The new Exeter East & Exmouth constituency covers Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton, Whimple & Rockbeare, Cranbrook, Woodbury & Lympstone, Broadclyst, Pinhoe, St Loyes and Topsham.
