David Smith and Janet Higgins are celebrating a triumphant victory after clinching the Banks Trophy at a Tuesday Mixed Group event in Honiton.

The coveted miniature claret jug, presented by Geoff Banks in 2012, honours the memory of his late wife, Sheila, who along with Geoff, organises the well-loved Tuesday Mixed Competitions.

Geoff set the format for this annual competition as a Pairs Treble Six, comprising 6 holes of Better Ball, 6 of Greensomes and concluding with 6 of Foursomes.

Sadly, Geoff too joined his wife in passing earlier this year but remains fondly remembered by the Group members.

Higgins and Smith put up an impressive score of 41 points in the latest competition under warm conditions.

They were followed closely by Paul Ritchie and Tracey Smith with 40 points and next, Mick Swann and Maureen Lawrence with a respectable 38.

In other news, there was high participation seen on June 28 with 72 players participating in a 3-man team Bowmaker.

John Craig, David de Klerk and Geoff Stone emerged victorious, posting 73 points.

This was followed narrowly by Dave Maggs, Chris Ford and Steve Whiteside, with 72 points.

Lastly, the match against Exeter for the Stan Parker Cup proved a challenge with the weather not playing fair.

The first leg concluded in a 3-3 draw as the rain poured.

The return home leg also matched the previous round, culminating in an overall 6-6 score meaning Exeter retained the trophy.
