England midfielder Jude Bellingham is being investigated by UEFA over a gesture he made during the Euros 2024 match against Slovakia on Sunday (June 30).

It's reported the 21-year-old made the gesture to the opposing team after he scored a late equaliser in the match and could face disciplinary action. 

The Real Madrid star gestured toward the Slovakian bench after his overhead kick brought England level in the dying seconds of injury time in Gelsenkirchen.

In a statement, UEFA said an investigation will take place "regarding a potential violation of the basic rules of decent conduct by the English Football Association player, Jude Bellingham".

The full statement released on Monday (July 1) reads: “A UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector will conduct a disciplinary investigation regarding a potential violation of the basic rules of decent conduct by the English Football Association player, Jude Bellingham, having allegedly occurred in the scope of this match.

“Information on this matter will be made available in due course.”

Bellingham posted on X about the gesture in the hours after the match, saying: “An inside joke gesture towards some close friends who were at the game. Nothing but respect for how that Slovakia team played tonight.”

Harry Kane went on to score England's winner in extra-time which meant the match finished 2-1 to England.

England will play Switzerland in the quarter-finals on Saturday (July 6) at 5pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
