Summer is finally here and what could be better when the sun is shining, than head out for a picnic?

From church gardens to a full wildlife park on the outskirts of Axminster, they are lots of places to enjoy a picnic this summer.

Here is my roundup of the best places in Honiton and Axminster for a picnic this weekend.

1. The Glen is a six-acre public park that can be found in the heart of Honiton. Traditionally the space is associated with one of the region’s leading families, the Ashleys of Pine Park House. Today, it is a popular spot for families, especially in the sunshine and as it leads from open countryside, is also somewhere that dog walkers and picnic aficionados like to visit, too.

2. Axe Valley Wildlife Park has an on-site coffee shop and restaurant for you to buy some food and enjoy the amazing array of wildlife they have on offer at the park.

3. The Minster, Axminster support Axminster's amazing independent stores by buying some food from them and then soak up the sun in the centre of Axminster on one of their park benches and marvel in the architecture of the church.

4. Roundball Hill has amazing views over Honiton. The area is a nature reserve and some of the trees here are centuries old, making the various walking routes fascinating to explore.

5 Mountbatten Park is home to a football ground and an area of parkland, you can sit with some snacks and watching the world go by. There are several sporting facilities and areas for walking to enjoy here too.
