Honiton carers have been very busy celebrating Carers Week 2024.

Starting on June 12, the week began with a presentation from Emma Green of Ferne Animal Sanctuary, about the history of how it all started and their plans for the future.

All attendees enjoyed the talk greatly, which also included tales about all the animals they currently nurture, both in the community and in-house.

The event concluded on a happy note with a raffle and light refreshments.

Notably, a Fair Trade hamper, donated graciously by the East Devon Crematorium, was won by carer Christine Goodwill.

Last Friday, the carers embarked on an exciting journey aboard the Seaton Tramway, and everyone enjoyed a great commentary both on the out journey and back.

The tramway service had granted free entry to all carers in light of Carers Week.

Later on, a quiz session involving intricate questions about chocolate bars provided ample fun at the Colyton Station Cafe during a refreshment break.

The challenging game saw a joint win - Angela & Richard McFadyen, Ann Dunn, and Lisa Lloyd shared the prize of a box of assorted mints.

The highlight of the week was the energy-charged fundraising event at the Co-op in Lace Walk on Saturday, June 15.

The carers got the chance to extend outreach to families and unpaid carers, helping to illuminate the truths of caring roles and addressing support gaps.

The event provided a platform for many to note the substantial need for support that is frequently overlooked.

The Honiton Carers were able to guide people to the right resources and answer numerous questions.

Their tremendous efforts were warmly welcomed by the community, which demonstrated generous support.

The Co-op must received acknowledgement for regularly hosting Honiton carers.

The Honiton Carers' ability to fuse celebration and education throughout their week of events is not only commendable but also enhances the understanding and appreciation of unpaid carers within the East Devon area.
