Spring art exhibitions featuring work of THG Open winners

The exhibitions display work from the winners of the gallery's biennial Open exhibition and celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Devon Artist Network.

The main gallery features the vibrant paintings of THG Open winner Sharon James.

She has created large, figurative artworks portraying scenes of family life.

The work of Sidmouth-based photographer, Kyle Baker, who won the THG Open's Best Emerging Artist prize, has also been showcased.

His collection consists of captivating seascapes and nightscapes depicting the aurora borealis.

Additionally, the Upper Gallery is displaying a collection by the Devon Artist Network as part of their anniversary celebrations.

Various Devon artists have contributed to the exhibition and are planning to conduct workshops for local school pupils, giving them the opportunity to try traditional art skills such as woodwork, ceramics, embroidery and basket weaving.

The exhibitions remain open until July 6, and are accessible from Tuesday to Saturday, between 10am and 5pm.

A programme of workshops, events, and talks will accompany the exhibitions, including an upcoming talk by Sharon James on June 8 at 2pm.

Gemma Girvan, THG curator, said: "We had a brilliant launch event for our THG Open winners' and Devon Artist Network exhibitions.

"Visitors and art lovers came to enjoy the opening and hear the artists introduce their work.

She went onto to add: "We are thrilled with all the positive feedback we have received about the exhibitions and look forward to welcoming more visitors over the coming weeks."
